The vast Tibetan Plateau is one of the world's most remote places but boast over 5,000 senior plants, 39 of which has been listed as wild plants under protection. The region also boasts 798 species of vertebrates and 2,305 species of insects. Some 125 animals in Tibet have been listed as rare species under top government protection. Tibet has 6,400 kinds of plants including 40 kinds of rare species. It has 1000 sorts of herbal medicine.

 

Endangered Species

The most recent research indicates that about 13,000 vascular plants and 1200 species of vertebrates have been identified: 678 species of birds, 206 mammals, 83 reptiles, 80 amphibians and 152 fish. Of these, 40 plants and 141 animal species are considered to be endangered.Our endangered wildlife is in red and bold below.
